Partner Organizations:

The Sourland Conservancy was founded in 1986 by a group of local residents who were concerned about growing and seemingly unsustainable development pressures threatening the largest contiguous forest in Central New Jersey. The Conservancy’s mission statement identifies three goals: (1) Protection of the Sourlands through advocacy for fact-based regulations; (2) Promotion through educating the public about its special and vulnerable nature; and (3) Preservation through active stewardship programs.

Learn the story of the unique culture, experiences, and contributions of the African American community of the Sourland Mountain region. The museum on the mountain explores this interesting part of the region’s history.
